How Urgent Care Centers are Impacting Healthcare and Communities

Chances are that by now you have seen, driven by, walked by, or maybe even visited your local urgent care center. These medical facilities have seen quite the renaissance in the last couple of years. They have continued to grow and expand the healthcare market. Of course, they are not all made the same. At Country Club Urgent Care, we have only the best physicians, nurses, and staff on hand. It is medical facilities such as ours that are making quite an impact in their respective communities and changing the way people think about urgent and emergency healthcare. We provide people with peace of mind and give access to non-life-threatening emergency medicine without the hassles and eye-popping medical bills of a regular ER.

Everyone in America has or will have some type of medical emergency at some point in their lives. Many of those emergencies will be non-life threatening but important nonetheless. That’s where we come in. It’s quite possible that you’ve been one of the millions of Americans that were, at some point, forced to use the emergency room at the local hospital. It is also possible that you are one of the millions that had to wait hours for proper care and to be properly treated. This is largely changing, thanks to urgent care centers like CCUC.

The World of Urgent Care — Treating Patients Effectively in Their Time of Need

The first urgent care opened up in the 1970s with the intent to fill the demand of walk-in clinics that did not sacrifice the quality of care. These centers were largely founded by emergency medical physicians and aimed at more minor afflictions such as flu, aches, colds, and other minor issues. Today, according to the Urgent Care Association, the total number of urgent care centers in 2018 was 8,774. This had increased from 8,125 the previous year. This number has increased as their positive impact has been shown across the country and the need for on-demand and affordable clinics rises.

The numbers have also shown that urgent care centers are typically money saver for patients. A 2016 study found that ER treatment costs were about ten times more than a visit to your urgent care center, even for patients that received the same diagnosis. This is a huge help to families and a relief to know that someone is nearby and ready to help any time anything happens. At the same time, according to the BCA benchmarking report, 70% of patients that visited urgent care saw a physician within 20 minutes of walking in the door and 85% of patients were seen under an hour. This takes a lot of stress off of families that come in with an emergency or urgent medical need.

The Millennial Trend

While it is still important to have a primary care physician, according to Business Insider young people and millennials don’t often have one. This means that they are a high percentage of the population that needs our services. They reported that about 45% of people in the 25-35 age group do not have a primary care physician and therefore count on urgent care centers as a reliable way to take care of non-life threatening issues.

By providing accessible, fast, reliable, and affordable healthcare, many families are encouraged to visit the urgent care center for minor injuries and issues. This increases the number of doctor visits and improves overall health in a community. Urgent care centers today offer patients a wide array of services, which means they can have some peace of mind that if something happens they will be treated quickly and effectively.
